What We Do

Queen's Cottage Foundation

Strategic Objective 1

To promote positive cultural practices that uphold the rights of the widows, orphans and other vulnerable persons

Under this objective we:

  • Work with a network of pro bono Lawyers who are called upon to provide free legal services to widows, orphans and other vulnerable persons.
  • We engage a pool of counsellors who provide therapy to widows, orphans and girls affected by violence, such as female genital mutilation.
  • Our target groups participate in organised social activities such as music, arts, sports and cultural events to promote the rights of widows, orphans and other vulnerable groups, including those affected by female genital mutilation.
  • We work with clan leaders, councils of elders, cultural leaders and other locally elected community leaders, to promote positive culture, positive masculinity to cause change in perceptions and attitudes in order to uphold human rights of all persons in their communities, with a specific focus on widows, orphans and girls affected by female genital mutilation.

Our experience and successes are lessons for us and our work as well as learning that others benefit from, and for evidence-based advocacy. We therefore document experiences of widows, orphans and other vulnerable groups we have worked with.
