Cultural institutions of ethnic groups and clans
where individuals belong wield a lot of power and influence, and in many ways,
provide leadership that guides the people who belong to these
institutions. Against this backdrop, we work
with clans and cultural institutions to influence their understanding of human
rights in as far as protection of widows and orphans are concerned, and as well
as other vulnerabilities such those created by female genital mutilation.
- We influence development of protocols by these
social community-based structures for upholding the protection of widows,
orphans and other vulnerable youth.
- We document positive traditional mechanisms developed
by the institutions we work with, for sharing, learning and replication.
